History
Stretch Boards, founded in 1979 in Malibu and now based in Santa Cruz, California, specializes in custom hand-built surfboards and alternative construction techniques. The brand was created by Stretch (taught board-building by his father Mike Riedel, who shaped for Velzy Jacobs in the 1960s), and despite a severe windsurfing accident in 1988 that left him with partial paralysis, he continues to innovate and design boards. The company emphasizes progressive wave-riding technology and works from a mid-town Santa Cruz location near the beach.
