Frequently asked questions

Short answers about quivers, catalog pages, and page ownership.

What is Board Hogs?

A place to catalog the surfboards you own, share that quiver publicly, and see what other surfers ride. Every board you add can carry its shaper, dimensions, the conditions you ride it in, and a photo.

Who can see my boards?

Each board has its own public toggle. Public boards appear on your profile, in the quiver directory, and in the aggregate data on board and spot pages. A board marked private is visible only to you. Sessions are separate and have their own per-session setting.

How do I add a board?

From your dashboard. You can type in a shaper and model freely — if the board matches something in the catalog it gets linked automatically, which is what connects your board to its model page.

I am a shaper or brand — can I manage my page?

Yes. Fill in the claim form and we will verify it by hand, then hand you ownership of the page. A verified owner edits their page directly and reviews the edits other surfers suggest for it. We do this manually rather than automatically because a shaper page is the shaper’s own name, and getting that wrong is worse than making them wait.

Something on a shaper, board, or spot page is wrong. How do I fix it?

Use the “Suggest an edit” form on the page itself. Suggestions go to the page’s verified owner if it has one, and otherwise to us. You do not need to own a page to improve it.

Where does the catalog data come from?

Shapers, board models, and surf spots are assembled from open sources — Wikidata, Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, and shapers’ own websites — then corrected by surfers using the suggest-an-edit flow. Sources whose terms do not permit it are not crawled at all.
