Chunan
Taiwan
Chunan is a sandy beach break with both left and right-hand reforms, positioned as a beginner-friendly spot best during the fall and winter months when strong northeasterly winds generate waves up to around six feet. Early morning sessions offer the smoothest conditions before winds strengthen mid-morning, at which point the increasing wind makes the beach popular with kiteboarders and windsurfers. The spot has shallow sections and experiences tide-driven current effects; mid-tide generally offers the most manageable conditions. Access is straightforward via Highway 3, with a simple exit to the beach just two kilometers away. The long sandy beach is near Zhunan's harbor area in Miaoli County, with fresh seafood vendors and local amenities nearby. The spot draws a mixed crowd of surfers, kiteboarders, and windsurfers due to the consistent wind patterns and accessible entry point.

Nan Wan
Taiwan
Nan Wan features a mellow left-hand break (港仔) near the beach and a separate right-hand reef break (獅仔頭) on the eastern side of the bay. The spot needs southeast swell orientation and works best with northwesterly offshore winds. Wave quality is highly seasonal—the bay remains flat for most of the year but transforms during typhoon season when powerful swells arrive, typically from May through September. Smaller summer swells suit beginners, while the larger typhoon swells offer shapely waves with barrels for advanced surfers. Rip currents, jet skis, and seasonal jellyfish presence are real hazards. Surfing arrived in Taiwan during the 1960s through American military connections, establishing roots during the 1980s as a sport. The Kenting area developed as a destination through the 1990s during what regional historians call a "golden era" of Asian surf discovery. Though Kenting hosted an international cup competition starting in 2006, Taiwan's major championship events moved eastward to Jinzun Harbour in Taitung rather than remaining at Kenting. Nevertheless, organized competitions and festivals continue to draw competitors to the area. Nan Wan sits within Kenting National Park on the Hengchun Peninsula, roughly half a kilometer of fine white sand backed by clear shallow water. The beach operates as a busy recreational hub with swimming, diving, and water sports. Physical access is straightforward given the developed Kenting tourist infrastructure, though heavy foot traffic and local water sports make solitude unlikely.

ShaLun
Taiwan
ShaLun is a beach break near Tamsui in Taipei, Taiwan, with a sandy bottom that handles both left and right waves. Best conditions arrive at low to mid tide with north, northwest, or west swell, favoring south, southeast, east, or northeast winds. The spot is noted among Taiwan's most dangerous waters due to strong rips and undertow, with additional hazards from buoys and a history of drowning incidents.
