More about Punta Roca

Punta Roca is a reef break with an uneven bottom of reef and sand that produces both left and right-hand waves. It holds swell from roughly 2 to 6 feet and works best with north or northwest swells combined with calm or southeast offshore winds—the break is very wind-sensitive and requires either no wind or winds blowing away from the wave face. Currents here are strong, and the reef is sharp with sea urchins present, making it hazardous for less experienced surfers. It works at mid to high tides.

The Caribbean coast near Barranquilla has two main swell seasons: November through March and July through September, with January, February, and October typically offering the most consistent clean conditions. Punta Roca remains relatively uncrowded even when other nearby breaks are busy. When conditions align—particularly during small 3-foot swells with proper wind—this break is considered among the heaviest waves on the Caribbean coast.

Access from Barranquilla requires taking the main road toward Sabanilla beaches. Before reaching the Country Club, turn onto a dirt road and follow it to the cliffs, then turn right until you reach the break. The nearest airport is Ernesto Cortissoz (Barranquilla), roughly 14 miles away.
