The city dates the park to 1988 and identifies Joaquina among its locations, alongside Campeche and nearby lagoons. Surf competition forms part of the beach's history: Hang Loose's 2025 retrospective places its Pro Contest here in 1986 and records a return in 2016 to mark thirty years.
