More about Guaratuba

Guaratuba is a point break over sand that handles swells between roughly 0.6 and 1.8 meters from the south and southeast, working best when offshore northwest winds hold it together. The wave favors beginners and developing surfers, though clean conditions are limited—in the peak month of May, the break is surfable only about 12 percent of the time while being blown out roughly a quarter of the time. It works across all tidal stages.

Access to Guaratuba is via Gate A of São Paulo State Highway 55, with no entrance fee; the beach stretches about 8 kilometers of light-colored sand. The nearest settlement, Itatinga, sits about 17 kilometers inland. Bertioga, which contains Guaratuba among its five main beaches, is home to 17 distinct breaks across the region and hosts competitions like the Circuito Bertioguense de Surf throughout the year.
