More about Gamboa

Gamboa is a sandy beach break that produces both left and right handers, with particularly clean right-hand walls when a strong southeast swell transitions eastward. The waves are hollow and prone to power, working reliably across all tide stages. Breaking waves typically range from half a meter in small conditions to around 1.5 meters at their best, with the break rated suitable for beginner and intermediate surfers, though it peaks around 7.0 in the southern-hemisphere winter months of May, July, and August. The primary hazard remains powerful rip currents that form in certain conditions, demanding caution even in small surf.

Garopaba as a region has established itself as a major surfing destination in southern Brazil, hosting international qualifying competitions and recognized tournaments since at least 2003. The broader coast between Garopaba and Laguna is known among Brazilian surfers for its consistent swell and wave quality.

The beach sits north of Garopaba town and is reached via an unpaved road. Parking is available for free immediately adjacent to the beach, though it can fill during peak seasons. The area is relatively undeveloped, with natural vegetation and surrounding hills visible from the shore. A modest amount of local commerce exists nearby with restaurants, shops, and simple accommodations for visiting surfers.
