More about El bolsillo

El Bolsillo is a right-hand point break with a mixed rock and sandy bottom located in the Pradomar area, about two kilometers from Puerto Colombia. The break responds best to northeast swell combined with south winds (offshore), which typically create cleaner conditions. The wave generally requires a minimum swell of two meters to get going and holds waves up to six feet. The spot receives a mix of groundswell and windswell throughout the year, though consistency comes with variability—during peak months like June, the break produces clean, surfable waves roughly a quarter of the time but becomes blown out by the frequent Caribbean winds over half the time. The water is very warm year-round, staying close to 29 degrees Celsius.

The two main surf windows on Colombia's Caribbean coast run from November through March and July through September, with June often proving particularly notable despite the windiness. This is an advanced surfer's wave; the combination of strong currents, sharp rocks throughout the break, rocky entry and exit points, and powerful wind make it substantially more challenging than other spots in the region.

Access is straightforward from nearby Barranquilla—Ernesto Cortissoz Airport sits about 23 kilometers away. Puerto Colombia has developed some surf tourism infrastructure, though El Bolsillo itself remains less trafficked than Caribbean hotspots more directly marketed to visitors. Entry to the water involves navigating rocky sections, and local conditions can vary considerably; on days when the persistent Caribbean wind relents, surfers have reported notably better conditions with reduced current pushing through the break.
