More about colpipe

Colpipe is a left-breaking reef break that produces fast, clean waves over shallow coral. The break responds best to north-northwest swell combined with south-southeast offshore winds, maintaining fairly consistent shape even when swell is substantial. The shallow reef and strong rips pose the primary hazards, requiring attentive navigation and intermediate-level ability.

The earliest documented surfing presence at Isla Fuerte included body boarders Stephen Meyer and Ruben Villegas from Barranquilla, along with surfer Roberto Marulanda; some exploratory visits from the mainland occurred at least a decade earlier. The spot remained largely underdeveloped for organized touring until more recent years and has not hosted major competitions or drawn a notable roster of elite surfers, keeping it relatively under-the-radar regionally.

Colpipe sits about 10 kilometers offshore on Isla Fuerte and requires reaching Monteria by air or road, then driving to Paso Nuevo port for a roughly 30-minute boat crossing to the island. From there, the break is a 20-minute paddle or 3-minute boat ride. The best conditions historically run through summer, particularly June, though autumn and winter also produce rideable swell. The spot remains uncrowded even during active swell periods.
