More about Campeche Rights

Campeche Rights is an advanced right-hand beach break capable of producing long, tubular rides that peel for 300 to 500 meters during favorable swells. The wave forms on a sandbar system called Pico and runs into the more barreling sections near Riozinho, where it faces river mouth currents and riptides from the Rio Tavares drainage. Best conditions arrive during southern swells combined with northwest offshore winds, typically in winter months. The wave can reach two to three meters on larger swells and becomes extremely crowded when these conditions align. Paddling out requires reading the entrance carefully to avoid the strong currents and submerged hazards present especially at lower tides.

Campeche transitioned from a quiet fishing village to one of the island's most desirable neighborhoods over the past 15 years, largely driven by the reputation of this break. Fábio Gouveia, who became the first Brazilian surfer to achieve significant world tour impact, relocated to Campeche in the early 2000s and helped establish it as a destination for serious surfers seeking challenging, long-period waves. The southern coast of Florianópolis hosts regular professional and amateur competitions through the Brazilian Surf Circuit and World Surf League events held at nearby breaks.

The beach sits in southern Florianópolis accessible by taxi or personal vehicle in 20 to 30 minutes from downtown. Parking exists both on street and in private paid lots running around 30 to 50 reais daily, with shower facilities available near the main beach entrance. Access is straightforward along Avenida Pequeno Príncipe heading toward the beach access point.
