Biboca

Biboca is a powerful reef break that produces heavy, unpredictable waves only during the winter swells of November through March, when North Atlantic storms send large groundswells on the roughly 350-kilometer journey to the archipelago. The break works best at high tide when it produces waves consistently in the 8-to-15-foot range, with a south wind and north-northwest swell as the ideal combination. The reef bottom makes it a technical, dangerous wave that requires advanced ability and acceptance of significant hazard exposure.

The break remains one of Fernando de Noronha's least-surfed spots despite its size and power, partly because the island's primary competitive attention and visitor surfers focus on neighboring Cacimba do Padre and other more accessible breaks. International competitions held on the island, such as the WSL Hang Loose Pro Contest, have used other reef breaks in the archipelago rather than Biboca as their venue.

Fernando de Noronha is a UNESCO-protected marine reserve with strict environmental access controls, including a daily visitor cap of 420 people and environmental fees required on arrival. Biboca sits in a secluded cove between Morro do Forte dos Remédios and Porto Santo Antônio, accessible by foot trail, and the island's conservation mandate means advance reservations are essential, particularly during the December-to-March peak season when the best swells arrive.
