More about Atlântida - Pier

Atlântida is an exposed beach break with inconsistent surf that performs best during the southern hemisphere autumn and winter months, particularly June. It requires a south-southeast swell combined with offshore west-northwest winds to produce clean, rideable waves. The break historically generated both left and right-hand options. The T-shaped pier that once extended into the water played a role in building favorable sand banks, but its collapse in early October 2023 has fundamentally altered the break's sand formation and wave characteristics, making current conditions substantially different from the established forecasts online.

The spot has hosted Brazil's elite youth surfing championship, the CBSurf Rip Curl Grom Search, which brings together juniors from fifteen states across eight age categories from under-12 through under-18 (both men's and women's divisions) to compete for national rankings and qualification to international events. Atlântida has also served as a venue for the Circuito Gaúcho de Surf Amador, a statewide amateur circuit that runs through multiple stages annually with competitors ranging from age ten to sixty, designed to develop grassroots participation and regional talent.

Atlântida sits in the municipality of Xangri-lá along Rio Grande do Sul's coast, distinct from the nearby Capão da Canoa break. The area is accessible as a public beach with a platform area near where the pier once stood. The spot is popular locally but experiences significant crowding during competitions and good swell periods, with hazards including rip currents and dynamic shore breaks.
