More about Wallabi Point
Wallabi Point is a beach break that produces both left and right-handers over a sandy bottom interspersed with rocks. The waves carry ordinary power and break with regular consistency around 100 days per year, typically running 50 to 150 meters but stretching longer in good conditions. The break works best during mid to high tide on a rising tide with northern swell and northwest winds in the 1 to 3 feet plus range. It's a manageable learning wave that occasionally develops real size, though it doesn't rank among the region's premium breaks.
The location is situated about 10 kilometers east of Old Bar and 20 kilometers southeast of Taree on the Mid North Coast. Access is straightforward via sealed roads: head east from the Pacific Highway on Old Bar Road, then turn right onto Saltwater Road and drive to the Saltwater picnic area. Parking is readily available at the reserve. The break attracts mainly young local surfers and tends to be quiet on weekdays with minimal crowds on weekends. The immediate area includes the Saltwater Nature Reserve with picnic facilities and a protected shallow saltwater lagoon in Khappinghat Creek suitable for swimming.
