More about Valla Beach
Valla Beach is an exposed beach break on the Mid North Coast that handles both left and right-hand waves across multiple sections. South Beach works for all levels but improves significantly with swell, while North Valla offers a longer right-hand wave over a rock shelf and a fast A-frame further down the beach. The break works best with south-southeast swells and westerly (offshore) winds, producing barrels in sections when swell lines up. It accepts swells from 0.3 meters upwards, with autumn and winter offering the most consistent conditions, particularly July. Autumn and winter bring the most reliable options, though the break maintains a consistent swell window year-round with low crowds.
The main hazards are rocks—particularly at North Valla where they form the wave-producing structure—along with sharks in the area and localized rip currents. Respect for the rocky outcrops is essential when paddling out or navigating the break.
Valla Beach is positioned 30 minutes south of Coffs Harbour and 10 minutes north of Nambucca Heads. Multiple beach access points provide parking with facilities including toilets and changing rooms. North Valla is accessed via Henderson Street and Cockburn Street, leading to Robert Lowden Park, from which a short walk through a public reserve crosses into the break area.
