More about Valentinos
Valentinos is a fast, playful reef-and-point break formed by a distinctive rock formation that rises from the sea in Mazatlán's Golden Zone. The break splits into a hollow right named Valentinos and a mushier left called El Camarón, both working over a rocky and sandy bottom. The Valentinos right requires intermediate to advanced skills and accelerates quickly when swell is large; the left side of the formation offers a gentler option with a tapered shoulder extending 20-30 meters, making it more forgiving for early intermediate surfers. The spot comes alive with northwest, west, and south swells depending on season, with east and northeast winds cleaning up the faces best in early mornings. The break is popular and crowded, particularly during the April-to-October peak when summer south and southwest swells bring consistent overhead waves to the area.
Valentinos sits along the Malecón boardwalk in the Zona Dorada near a distinctive white-castle nightclub landmark on the rocky headland. Access is straightforward from the main coastal avenue, with parking available and nearby hotels and restaurants. The sharp rocks that form the reef present the primary hazard, requiring swimmers and surfers to take care with entries and exits.
