More about Todos Santos
Todos Santos contains several breaks catering to different skill levels. San Pedrito breaks as a fast right-hander off a rocky point and suits intermediate to advanced surfers. The island's Killers is a world-class big-wave point break accessible only by boat, regularly producing waves well over 60 feet during winter northwest swells. Winter is prime season when consistent NW-W swell stacks size across all the breaks; the spot remains active year-round but smaller in summer months. Hazards include strong currents, shallow reef sections on some breaks, and the exposed island position making conditions unpredictable.
Surfing at Todos Santos dates to 1965 when members of California's Windansea Surf Club and Mexican pioneers first ventured to the break. The spot lay dormant through the late 1960s until Mexican surfers revived Killers in the 1970s, transforming it into a proving ground for big-wave riders. The break attracted increasingly prominent surfers through the 1980s and 1990s. In 1998, Taylor Knox rode a 50-foot wave here during competition. Brad Gerlach later claimed the XXL Biggest Wave Award after paddling into a 68-foot face in December 2005. Killers hosts regular big-wave events, including the 2026 Thriller competition which ran in February with 25-plus-foot surf.
Todos Santos sits on the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, roughly 47 miles northwest of Cabo San Lucas via Highway 19, a drive of approximately one hour. The town sits in the foothills near the Sierra de la Laguna range. Access from Los Cabos International Airport is straightforward via rental car or taxi. Killers itself requires a boat charter from the mainland; the nearby beach breaks at San Pedrito are walkable from town infrastructure.
