More about Terramar Point
Terramar is a mellow point break where swells split into both left and right walls peeling from the same peak, making it an uncommon setup among San Diego breaks. The break sits over a large rocky reef extending 200-300 feet offshore. Small swell produces fun, rippable conditions for intermediate surfers, but as swells grow the wave becomes more powerful and demanding. The spot is highly tide-sensitive: high tide produces backwash off the 50-foot seaside cliffs making the break unsurfable, while low tide sometimes closes out. It works best on low to mid tides, with mid-tide generally being ideal. Winter brings the most consistent swell, particularly in January, when west-southwest groundswells combine with northeast offshore winds to produce the cleanest conditions. The break tends to get crowded when conditions align.
The spot remains relatively low-key compared to other San Diego breaks, though it has become more established as a point break location. Available historical or competitive significance information is limited; the spot appears to be valued primarily by local surfers rather than being recognized for landmark sessions or notable competitions.
Beach access includes a raised deck with amenities like picnic tables, a barbecue, an outdoor shower, and surfboard racks, though there are no nearby public restrooms. The location is scenic with strong sunset views and dramatic coastal bluffs.
