More about Tamri
Tamri is a river mouth break over sand that produces both left and right peaks, with excellent consistency throughout the year. It holds swell from multiple directions but performs best with northwest groundswell combined with easterly offshore winds, working well on low to mid tide. The peak-to-trough dimensions can reach several meters, and while the sandy bottom and multiple peaks make it approachable, river mouth dynamics and rip currents intensify significantly when waves exceed 2.5 to 3 meters, creating genuine hazards beyond the capability of less experienced surfers.
Tamri entered the European and American surfing consciousness during the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of a broader wave of exploration along Morocco's Atlantic coast, though it remained far less celebrated than nearby Taghazout and similar commercial hubs. The spot gained a reputation as a quieter alternative precisely because of its isolation and lack of infrastructure, allowing it to develop a following among surfers seeking less-crowded peaks without the resort atmosphere found in other Moroccan breaks.
Located roughly 50 kilometers north of Agadir in a small fishing village backed by sand dunes, Tamri remains accessible but genuinely remote, with minimal accommodation or commercial surfing services. The river outlet, which defines the break, moves the actual peak position seasonally and with river discharge, requiring local knowledge to find the best banks on any given day.
