More about T-Street

T-Street is a hybrid beach and reef break that holds shape across a range of swell sizes due to its consistent geometry. The sandbar and shallow reef sections divide into distinct peaks—the Reef, Cropley's, and Beach House—each with its own character, though the entire setup transforms rapidly depending on tide height. South and southwest swell produces the most predictable waves, while northeast winds provide the offshore shape. The break works best during lower tides and punches noticeably harder and faster on the inside sections. Rip currents are a hazard here, and sandbars shift seasonally, which along with rocky patches means conditions change even between consecutive sessions.

T-Street has been a training ground for professional surfers for decades, hosting everyone from early big-wave pioneer Mickey Munoz to modern standouts like the Gudauskas brothers and Greg Long. The beach draws both competitive surfers and dedicated bodyboarders, with the annual Salt Life Midget Smith Memorial Pier Rat Challenge and USA Bodysurfing events held here. Current-generation pros like the Colapinto brothers regularly train at the spot.

T-Street sits just south of the San Clemente Pier along Trafalgar Canyon. Access requires hiking down a trail and passing through a tunnel under the railroad tracks to reach the beach. The state beach parking lot charges $15 per day per vehicle. The spot is one of the most reliable everyday waves in central Orange County and draws steady crowds of both locals and visitors.
