More about Sunset Point

Sunset Point breaks as a slow, rolling right-hand point, producing predictable waves that maintain their shape across the reef for extended rides. The break favors south swells, particularly during fall and winter, and performs best during early morning sessions when light winds and incoming tide create the cleanest conditions. The wave characteristics make it ideal for intermediate and beginner surfers practicing longboarding, though the rocky bottom and narrow beach configuration present some hazards compared to other nearby breaks.

Access is straightforward but constrained: the spot sits where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, separated from the broader Will Rogers State Beach by a rocky stretch. Parking is available along the PCH shoulder north and south of Gladstone's Restaurant, or in their lot. The narrow beach north of the point becomes rocky and conditions deteriorate in afternoon hours as onshore winds develop and tide deepens.
