More about Solimar
Solimar is a sustained right-hand reef break that extends across a boulder-and-sand base, producing long peeling walls under favorable conditions. The wave reaches eight feet on solid southwest swells with northeast offshore wind, performing best at low tide. It requires intermediate to advanced ability—the steep entry demands power and snap, while winter's kelp infestations grow so dense early in the season that they effectively choke the wave, making it unrideable despite swells pumping through.
Solimar sits on Highway 1 roughly four miles north of downtown Ventura, within a private gated residential area about a mile above Emma Wood State Beach. Free public parking is available near the southern edge of the development; surfers typically paddle out in around ten minutes from the beach. Parking remains plentiful on weekdays but fills by early morning on weekends.
