More about Shelly Beach

Shelly Beach has a sand and reef bottom that handles swell from the east through southeast, with the north end capable of peeling off a clean left when conditions align. Waves generally run waist-high to triple overhead. Northwest winds are ideal for cleaning up the break. Very consistent (8/10 consistency rating), it works for both beginner and intermediate surfers. Rocks and sharks are hazards; the south end has rips worth avoiding. Expect crowds, especially on weekends.

Close to The Entrance, access is straightforward—parking, toilets, and a cafe are available near the beach. Lifeguards patrol September through April. The Shelly Beach Surf Club is active in the area and the beach hosted women's competition events in recent years.
