More about Secret Spot

Secret Spot is an expert-only reef break that produces thick, powerful barrels in extremely shallow water over sharp reef. It works reliably year-round in the 4-10 foot range, responding best to southwest swell and east-northeast winds, with rideable waves at any stage of tide. The barrels are considered world-class in quality, though the break demands high technical skill and carries serious hazard from sharp reef, submerged rocks, and sea urchins that blanket the reef structure.

Secret Spot functions as a locals-only break—primarily Senegalese and French expat surfers who have built respect in the lineup over years. It attracts far fewer visitors than other Almadies breaks and rarely suffers from crowding.

Access is straightforward: the break sits directly below the Diarama hotel on the southern side of the Almadies Peninsula, just three kilometers from Dakar airport. Multiple cafes and restaurants line the oceanfront, and several other notable breaks lie within walking distance along the peninsula, which juts into the Atlantic as Africa's westernmost point.
