More about San Pedrito

San Pedrito is a right-hand reef break that works best between October and March when northwest-to-west groundswells meet northeast offshore winds. The wave runs along a rocky point, producing lined-up, fast-moving rights that can reach head-high to overhead size with proper swell. The best rides come on mid to low tide. Advanced skill is required due to the strong currents and rocky bottom, though the break is surfable at any tide. The reef can be sharp enough that local surfers wear booties year-round and helmets are common.

The Todos Santos area, where San Pedrito sits, was part of the wave-chasing push into Baja California that began in the 1960s when California surfers started exploring the largely unknown coastline. Legendary big-wave rider Mike Doyle visited the region in the late 1960s and became a vocal advocate for its quality, which helped draw wider attention from the broader surf community. Todos Santos is now recognized as a World Surfing Reserve.

San Pedrito is about 8 kilometers south of Todos Santos town and roughly 45 minutes to an hour north of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific coast. The break is accessed through Pescadero village near Highway 19, where a small surf camp operates. A camp at KM64 provides basic accommodations and attracts surfers during peak season, which can make the lineup crowded in winter. Hazards beyond the sharp rocks and sea urchins include strong rip currents, so local knowledge helps when paddling out.
