More about San Jorge
San Jorge is situated on a west-facing barrier peninsula south of Las Barrancas, with miles of shifting beach breaks forming both left and right-hand waves. Because the break requires significant southwest swell to wrap around Cabo San Lazaro, conditions there depend heavily on the strength and angle of incoming swells. Groundswells are more reliable than wind-generated waves, and the offshore wind direction from the east-northeast creates the cleanest periods. Peak season runs through winter months, particularly November.
The sandbar configuration changes continuously, which means the best break locations shift seasonally or after major swell events, creating an element of discovery for visiting surfers.
Access requires a vehicle capable of handling rough terrain from Loreto (approximately 85 kilometers away), which sits as the nearest significant town and airport.
