More about Sa Mesa Longa

Sa Mesa Longa is a reef break set within a lagoon on the Sinis Peninsula, working best with northwest swell and southeast winds that sweep across it. The break is sheltered by a natural sandstone barrier lying just offshore, which creates a distinctive protected setting and works consistently at all tides. The reef produces well-formed walls when swell arrives, and conditions suit intermediate surfers, with wave faces ranging from small 2-foot waves to overhead plus on bigger days. Hazards include rocks and sea urchins endemic to the area.

The spot hosts an established longboard competition called SaMesaLong held annually in October, indicating a sustained local surf culture, though detailed records of early surfing history at the break are scarce in accessible sources.

The beach lies at Putzu Idu in San Vero Milis (Province of Oristano), nestled between the Capo Mannu cliffs and Su Pallosu coast. Access is via an asphalt road with paid parking; the walk from the parking area to the beach itself runs 400–500 metres on foot. Water temperatures vary seasonally from 13–14°C in March to 24–28°C in August, requiring a wetsuit for much of the year.
