More about Rincon De Baja
Rincon De Baja is a long right-hand point break that fires best during large west-southwest swells, typically generating waves in the 2-4 foot range with larger sets reaching 4+ feet. The break responds well to high tide and northeast offshore winds, which are most common during winter months—particularly January. Submerged rocks require awareness when paddling out. The point's orientation provides natural shelter compared to some neighboring breaks when stronger onshore winds prevail.
The spot acquired its modern name Shipwrecks from a freighter that went down there during the 1980s. Specific documented surf history for the break itself is scarce, though the San Quintin region has drawn visiting surfers since the mid-twentieth century.
Access requires driving south on Highway 1 past Colonet, then turning west on a dirt road near Rio San Telmo to reach Camalú, then heading north to the break. The location sits approximately 5 kilometers south of Camalú town. Camping is available in the area, and the break remains lightly crowded relative to more developed points in the region.
