More about Renes
Renes is an exposed beach break on the south side of Rosarito that delivers reliable left and right-hand waves, typically 2-3 feet. Southwest swell is the primary driver, with offshore east winds providing the best conditions, particularly during summer months. The sandy beach produces generally mellow, rolling waves.
A significant concern at Renes is severe water contamination from sewage discharge originating at a treatment plant in Punta Bandera, located about five miles south of the US-Mexico border. This fecal contamination is particularly problematic in the Rosarito area, and is compounded by a nearby power plant and Pemex industrial complex. Numerous surfers report strange water odors and have become sick after surfing here. Rosarito ranks among Mexico's most contaminated beaches. Rocks present an additional in-water hazard.
Renes is named after Rene's Sports Bar and breaks directly in front of the establishment on Rosarito's main beach, making it straightforward to access and readily identifiable.
