More about Red Gate
Redgate is a sandy beach break in a sheltered bay bordered by granite boulders and coastal dunes. It produces consistent peaks with both left and right opportunities and works best when southwesterly swell combines with easterly winds, ideally around mid-tide. The wave is more forgiving than the heavier reef breaks in the area, making it a sensible option when larger swells are running elsewhere in the Margaret River region.
The beach sits about 13.6 kilometres south of Margaret River town and is accessed via Caves Road or Bussell Highway on a sealed road passable by standard vehicles. A bitumen parking area provides free parking, though spaces fill quickly on busy days; toilets and wheelchair-accessible facilities are on-site. The area forms part of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.
