More about Quimixto
Quimixto is a peeling left-hand reef break with a cobblestone seafloor, the result of riverine deposits from a waterfall that feeds into the beach. Waves typically reach 3 to 6 feet during the primary season from November through April, with additional swell energy during September. The break requires intermediate skills at minimum and is not recommended for beginners. Primary hazards are rip currents, the unforgiving rocky-cobblestone bottom, and weekend crowding.
Access is exclusively by water taxi from Boca de Tomatlán, the nearest coastal town. The spot's northern exposure provides direct access to winter swells from the Bay of Banderas, creating consistent wave activity during peak season. Weekends typically attract 20 to 25 surfers, while weekdays remain quieter with mostly local paddlers.
