More about Punta Pamilla

Punta Palmilla is a right-hand point break that peels over a rock and reef bottom, capable of producing waves from chest high to double overhead. The break stretches for extended distances when conditions align, requiring solid intermediate to advanced technique to navigate the reef and manage the powerful walls that form. Best conditions occur when a substantial south or southwest swell combines with offshore northwest winds, typically from May through early summer and again during late fall into spring when Pacific swells march north into the region.

Access is relatively straightforward from San José del Cabo. The break sits a few kilometers from the town center, easily reached by car or taxi along Highway 1, with parking available near the One&Only Palmilla resort, which occupies the headland and hosts the break. The spot is roughly 26 kilometers from Los Cabos International Airport. The area attracts professional and visiting surfers, though the break itself is not heavily crowded and does not have high consistency year-round, so sessions can be infrequent depending on swell patterns.

I found limited specific documentation of historical competitions or notable sessions unique to Punta Palmilla itself, though the area has hosted professional surfers through the resort's connections. The reef and surrounding rocky terrain present the primary hazard beyond typical big-wave risks.
