More about Punta Negra

Punta Negra is a right-hand reef point break exposed to the Pacific, working best on strong west to northwest swells, with north-northeast winds providing optimal conditions. The break is particularly consistent during winter months, especially January. The wave demands respect for hazards including shallow rocks, strong rips, and sharks, and can draw crowds when swell aligns.

Part of the legendary Seven Sisters chain of classic Baja point breaks, Punta Negra was explored and documented during a San Onofre Surfing Club expedition in 1971. The broader region has remained a remote, relatively undeveloped destination for touring surfers.

Access to Punta Negra requires driving inland from the Pacific coast near El Rosario. The area is remote with minimal infrastructure and services, reflecting its location on one of Baja's least-developed stretches of coastline.
