More about Punta Conejo
Punta Conejo is an advanced left point break over flat rocks and sand featuring consistently long rides that can stretch 300 to 500 meters on quality swells. The wave responds best to southwest groundswells combined with northeasterly offshore winds, with low to mid tide providing optimal shape, particularly on a falling tide. Hazards include sharp rocks that define the wave structure—riding too far into the point will put you on them—and sharks in the area.
Local surfers including Uriel and his friends were riding this break by the mid-1990s when it remained largely unknown outside the region. The point has retained its remote character and uncrowded conditions even as word of its quality has spread, supporting a modest community of seasonal travelers and campers.
Access is via a dirt track leading to a bluff overlooking the break. Parking and camping are established on the elevated ground; the lower sand areas flood during rain events and should be avoided as vehicles have been swept away by flash water. The break works reliably throughout the year with particularly consistent swell during the winter months, especially December.
