More about Punta Blanca
Punta Blanca is a sharp left-breaking reef that demands respect from experienced surfers. The break sits over exposed volcanic rock and activates best when northwest swell pushes in with easterly wind providing offshore cleanup. The spot works from 3 feet and scales well into double-overhead conditions, but the shallow reef means drop-ins carry real consequences. The wave character shifts noticeably with tide and swell size, and rock boots are necessary protection on low-tide entries.
The Tenerife Puntablanca Young Series, an Under-21 competition held there in March 2022 with 64 competitors, indicates the break's profile within regional surfing. Beyond that structured event, Punta Blanca has established itself as a serious local wave during the autumn-to-spring window, particularly January, when consistent northwest groundswell arrives. Weekend crowds have grown as word spread, though midweek sessions remain quieter.
Access reaches the break via a 4-5 kilometer drive south from Guía de Isora town toward Los Gigantes along the TF-436 coastal road. Parking consists of informal gravel space between Alcalá and Varadero towns with capacity for roughly 20-30 vehicles. A short walk of 100-200 meters leads from parking down to the water. Facilities are minimal, so self-sufficiency in terms of fresh water and equipment is necessary.
