More about Pram Pram

Pram Pram is a beach and reef break that fronts the Greater Accra coast, roughly 45 minutes east of Accra and accessible from the capital. The waves respond to Atlantic groundswells from the south-southwest, with clean conditions arriving on north-northwest offshore winds; winter months, particularly January, offer the most consistent rideable waves. The water stays warm year-round at around 28°C, requiring minimal thermal protection.

Surfing in Ghana as a whole traces back to the 1960s and grew into an organized activity in the early 2000s, though little is documented specifically about Pram Pram's discovery or early sessions there. The sport now centers around Busua Beach to the west, home to the country's main boardriders club and competitive events, while coastal breaks like Pram Pram remain quieter alternatives.

Pram Pram can be reached from Accra in roughly three-quarters of an hour, with Tema port city as a nearby reference point. Reef-bound sections present the typical hazards of exposed coastlines—sharp rocks and man-made obstructions like moorings—requiring attention during entry and exit.
