More about Praia dos Coxos

Coxos is a rocky point break that produces long, fast, and powerful right-hand barrels. The wave demands experience and suits advanced to professional surfers only. It works best on northwest to west swell, with northeast to southeast winds providing clean conditions. Low to mid tide produces the most favorable waves. Hazards are substantial: the rocky point makes entry and exit extremely tricky, sea urchins inhabit the area, and the hollow barrels pack serious power capable of catching surfers off-guard.

First surfed in the 1970s, Coxos has since developed a reputation among Europe's top surfers. The spot attracted pro-level talent over the decades, and surfer Tiago Pires became notably associated with the break. Its consistent, challenging barrels have made it a proving ground for capable European surfers.

Access to Coxos involves driving from Ericeira toward São Lourenço, with parking available near the spot, though it fills quickly during optimal swell periods. The beach sits beneath dramatic cliffs, offering striking landscape views alongside the surf conditions.
