More about Praia de Montalbo
Montalbo is a hybrid beach and reef break that produces both left and right hand waves, with the characteristic short, hollow shorebreak mentioned in your existing description. The break works year-round due to its exposed orientation, but delivers the most consistent and powerful waves during autumn and winter months, particularly in February. Waves typically range between half a meter and three meters, with best conditions coming together when southwest swell meets offshore northeast winds at low tide. The intermediate-to-advanced requirement is warranted—the hollow power and variable left/right take-off options mean different sections suit different skill levels, but the overall character is demanding.
Montalbo sits between the rocky points of Punta Montalvo and Punta Paxariñas, which provide some shelter from northerly winds while allowing the primary southwest swell to wrap in. The beach spans roughly one kilometer and widens noticeably at low tide. Behind the sand lies a preserved pine forest and dunes, giving it an attractive setting within the Rías Baixas coastal region, about five kilometers from the town of Sanxenxo in Pontevedra province.
