Posties

Posties is a right-hand reef break near Port MacDonnell on South Australia's far southeast coast, about 400km from Adelaide. The break produces powerful, hollow barrels and works best on high tides when the shallow, sharp reef has enough water coverage to break cleanly. It's an intermediate-level spot that requires local knowledge and respect for the hazards—the reef itself is sharp, and the area experiences strong rips, rocks, and consistent shark presence common to southern Australian waters.

The break receives reliable groundswell from the southwest with offshore winds from the northeast that groom the waves during the cooler months. Winter offers the most consistent and cleanest conditions, particularly June, when southwest swell is most frequent and northeast winds blow offshore. The exposed location facing the Southern Ocean means the break can handle substantial swell volume and regularly features quality waves when conditions align.

Port MacDonnell itself sits at South Australia's southernmost point and has developed as a dedicated surfing destination within the broader Limestone Coast region. Access requires local knowledge of entry points and tide timing; the tidal swing is significant and low tide can expose dangerous shallow sections of the reef.
