More about Point Dume

Point Dume is a fast, hollow right-hand point break with a ledgy character that performs best during summer and autumn swells. The wave holds overhead to sixteen-foot faces and combines power with elongated, rideable walls when south swells align with northeast offshore wind around mid tide. The break is considerably fickle, responding only to specific swell and wind angles, and the consistency of the shape makes it a technical challenge suited to experienced surfers.

Access to Point Dume requires a twenty-minute walk south along Westward Beach, ideally timed on an outgoing tide to avoid the rocky sections that flood during high water. The hike traverses sand and exposed rocks before reaching the break, which sits in front of private property where crowding and strict localism are common pressures. Hazards include sharp rocks and exposed reef, sea urchins, strong rip currents, and the physical demands of a distant paddle out.
