More about Oyambre
Oyambre is a three-kilometer sandy beach with multiple shifting peaks that deliver both left and right-hand rides. Winter swells from October through April produce heavier Atlantic groundswells, while May through September bring gentler rolling waves in the head-high range. The beach's orientation allows consistent swell capture year-round, even during summer months when many nearby breaks are underperforming. Faces stretch 50 to 150 meters in width, and while the break functions throughout the tidal cycle, it performs best at low tide. Rip currents form here. The spot is less swell-exposed than neighboring breaks along this coast, making it a practical fallback when adjacent beaches become too large or choppy.
The beach sits in Valdáliga municipality between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera. Named peaks including El Pajaro Amarillo and El Golf identify the most consistent takeoff zones and work equally well for beginners and intermediates. Several surf schools and camps operate near the beach; organized instruction began there in 2011. The beach adjoins Oyambre Natural Park and forms part of the San Vicente de la Barquera Surfing Reserve, designated in 2015.
