More about Ollies point

Ollies Point is a medium-sized beach break with peaks producing both left and right-hand waves across a sandy bottom. The spot responds best to north and north-northwest swell combined with southeast winds, which create the most favorable offshore conditions. Waves arrive inconsistently, with spring—particularly April—offering the most reliable rideable surf. Mid to high tide during a rising tide provides optimal shape. The break tends toward intermediate-to-advanced difficulty; summer conditions are typically flat. Strong currents and rip passages are present, and nearby breakwaters pose a hazard, so staying clear of these structures is essential. Man-made navigation buoys also present obstacles.

Surfing arrived in Belgium in 1983 when a traveler returned from Morocco with a board; Ollies Point itself was discovered and named after its founder in the 1990s. The spot has established itself as a known destination within Belgium's modest surf community. Localism, which was once a notable presence, has diminished over time, though respecting local surfers remains important.

The break sits near Mariakerke, approximately three kilometers from Ostend, with convenient beach parking located just a five-minute walk from the water's edge via Dijksmuidestraat.
