Odeceixe

Odeceixe is a river-mouth beach break where the Seixe River meets the Atlantic, with shifting sandbanks creating both left and right peak opportunities. The sandy bottom and bank configuration produce softer, more forgiving waves on smaller days, while stronger swells and lower tides reveal faster sections and more defined banks near the river mouth. Best conditions arrive with offshore winds from the east and northwest-running swell, typically during the winter months. The spot performs across all tide stages but develops better-shaped banks during low to mid-tide windows, whereas high tide tends to flatten the wave shape. Typical wave heights range from beginner-friendly 2-5 foot sets, though bigger swells can produce sizeable, more demanding peaks near the river channel.

Odeceixe sits at the Alentejo-Algarve border, roughly 3 kilometers from the small village of the same name via a paved road (EN120). Access involves organized paid parking near the beach, though the lot fills quickly during summer months. A boardwalk leads to the beach, and seasonal facilities including restaurants, restrooms, and lifeguards operate during the summer. The river mouth and sandbanks create strong rip currents that require awareness—they can aid paddling on favorable days or sweep you off the peak unexpectedly. Rocks scattered near the shore and shifting sand patterns add complexity to line selection, particularly on larger swell days.
