More about Ocean grove

Ocean Grove is a sheltered sand-bottom beach break where waves develop in the waist-to-head-high range, rarely exceeding shoulder height. The break produces relatively soft, rounded wave faces suited to longboarding and learner progression. Tidal timing significantly affects quality—high tide produces slower, more forgiving walls, while lower stages create faster, steeper formations. The bottom's sandy consistency remains stable across wind directions and swell angles.

Ocean Grove has hosted structured surfing and lifesaving events since at least 1970, when it was selected for the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. The Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club has been a competitive fixture on the Victorian lifesaving circuit, winning the Senior State Championships multiple times across the 2000s and into the recent period. The location has functioned as a training ground and competition venue rather than a destination break.

Beach access is straightforward—free parking is available despite summer crowds—with full foreshore facilities including showers, toilets, and a boat ramp. The usable beach extends over two kilometres with multiple entry points spread across the strip. An active Surf Life Saving Club operates on-site, and disabled beach access is supported.
