More about Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach is the long sandy Southern Ocean shore near Strahan on Tasmania's west coast. Its southern section begins at Braddon Point, on the north side of the Macquarie Harbour entrance opposite Hells Gate. The beach changes substantially along its length.
Surf Life Saving Australia's Beachsafe profile describes partial shelter from Kawatiri Shoal and Cape Sorell over the first three to five kilometres. Beachsafe describes one rip-dominated sandbar along this southern stretch. Farther north, its account records greater exposure, two to three bars, and numerous rips. Ocean Beach Road reaches the shore from Strahan beside a small creek, while the northern approach crosses the Henty Dunes. These are distinct parts of a long coast rather than one uniform surf break.
