More about Nobbys Beach

Nobbys Beach works primarily when large southerly swell pushes 6–8 feet into the protected southern end behind Nobby Head, creating a right-hand wave over rocks. Multiple rock formations generate additional breaks—left-hand reefs, right-hand shelves, and sand-based lefts—but the beach tends to closeout, and swell power drops significantly compared to more exposed breaks nearby.

The rocky bottom and nearshore formations are the defining feature and primary hazard, requiring strong local knowledge. The unpatrolled beach is best suited to experienced surfers who can assess conditions and navigate the rocks during entry and exit. Shelter from the headland means this break rarely fires on small-to-moderate swell or in strong onshore wind.

The beach sits beneath a 30-meter rocky headland at Port Macquarie and can be accessed via footpath (Kenny Walk) off Pacific Drive or by walking over rocks from Flynns Beach. A small car park fills quickly during peak times, and the beach remains unpatrolled.
