More about Meringo Beach
Meringo Beach's northern strand faces east between a basalt headland and Meringo Headland on the New South Wales South Coast. Wave erosion has exposed columns in the northern rocks, while a vegetated dune borders much of the sand. Meringo Creek and its lagoon sit behind the beach, with an outlet crossing the beach near its middle. Surf Life Saving Australia's guide describes rip currents beside the bounding points as well as channels along the beach. This is the northern beach, identified by the guide as NSW 571; a separate beach lies south of Meringo Headland. The creek, headlands and intervening sand define this stretch, rather than the different wave pattern described for its southern neighbor.
