More about MacKerricher

MacKerricher's main beach is a fairly generic sandy beachbreak that works best in fall when northwest and west-facing swell combines with favorable wind patterns. Mid-tide conditions typically produce the most consistent shape along the primary stretches. The break itself lacks much structure, though Laguna Point to the south develops more defined peaks at low tide and can be more organized; Virgin Creek, just outside the park boundary, offers better-shaped right-handers with occasional barrel sections.

Access is straightforward from the Cleone entrance three miles north of Fort Bragg off Highway 1. A parking lot sits at the main trailhead with picnic facilities and restrooms, with multiple beach access points continuing north along the bluff trail toward Ward Avenue. The $8 daily fee applies during daylight hours (sunrise to 10 PM), and the park maintains wheelchair-accessible facilities and boardwalks.
