More about Lovers Point
Lovers Point is a left-hand point break in a rocky cove in Pacific Grove where waves wrap around and pull fast along the reef-rock bottom. When small, the walls tend to be mushy; larger swells produce more defined, rippable faces. It breaks inconsistently and is considered reasonably exposed—workable swells are not common at this location. The break handles northwest ground swells well and prefers south wind to clean up the faces; winter, particularly December, offers the most consistent approach, though even then clean conditions occur less than half the time. The main hazards are rocks within the break and rip currents in the cove.
Access is straightforward from Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove, with parking and facilities available nearby. The break is not typically crowded even when waves are present, likely because the infrequent swell window and rocky environment keep the lineup small.
