More about Little River State Beach

Little River State Beach is a sandy beach break that produces both left and right-hand waves, with a long, gentle approach typical of the continuous sandy coastline north of Eureka. The break has inconsistent swell patterns throughout the year with no clear seasonal peak, though January tends to offer the most consistent rideable waves during the winter months. East-southeast offshore winds shape the cleaner sessions, paired with northwest groundswell.

The beach rarely draws crowds even when waves are up. Beyond the sharks, urchins, rip currents, and rocks you already noted, the general water conditions in this part of Humboldt Bay can be rough and challenging to paddle into.
