More about Latigo Point
Latigo Point is a long right-hand point break over sand and exposed rock. It breaks significantly bigger than Malibu but with a mushier, less defined shape, making it well-suited for longboarding. The spot is notably inconsistent, rarely producing rideable conditions, and when it does break it responds better to strong southeasterly swells with offshore winds from the north-northwest. The wave is workable across low and mid tide.
The spot has been surfed as a secondary break in the Malibu area, known among local surfers primarily as a less-crowded alternative when First Point and other main breaks are packed or unsuitable. Its isolation and poor consistency mean it lacks the competition history or documented session legacy of nearby First Point.
Access requires parking along PCH rather than on private Latigo Shore Drive, then a lengthy walk down beach below the high tide line. This effort and the rarity of decent waves keep the spot secluded by design rather than through active localism.
